In my view, one of the subtle reasons the things do not change it is because many people in power are #psychopaths. The sooner we realize it, the better chance we’ll have to address real issues.
For example, it is pointless to try to discuss with a psychopath, she will not hear you. A #psychopath does not need better communication, he needs psychiatric help.
Let me give you the main characteristics of a psychopath (based on Professor Hare’s research). A person does not need to have all of them, but the more they are the worse it is.
- glib and superficial charm
- grandiose (exaggeratedly high) estimation of self
- need for stimulation
- pathological lying
- cunning and manipulativeness
- lack of remorse or guilt
- shallow affect (superficial emotional responsiveness)
- callousness and lack of empathy
- parasitic lifestyle
- poor behavioral controls
- sexual promiscuity
- early behavior problems
- lack of realistic long-term goals
- impulsivity
- irresponsibility
- failure to accept responsibility for own actions
- many short-term marital relationships
- juvenile delinquency
- revocation of conditional release
- criminal versatility
Now, just for fun (seriously), analyze your favorite political candidate using the previous list. Does she/he fit the psychopathic profile? If she/he does, do you want put your trust in her/his hands?
You can do this exercise with any person in any authority role.
